Sagittaria is a series launched by Swedish Rörstrand in the 1950s, designed by Carl‑Harry Stålhane. He was a prominent designer during the workshop's mid-period, known for his sculptural vases, delicate glaze experiments, and modernist lines.

The series name comes from the aquatic plant "Sagittaria," whose leaf shape and growth habit inspired the forms of the vessels. Stålhane transformed the light and shadow of the leaves into relief on the body of the vessels – not for mere decoration, but to create soft shadows on the surface, conveying the plant's sense of "breathing."

This vase continues the Sagittaria's vocabulary: a pale blue glaze, soft lines, and sculptural proportions. The handle and the slanted rim give the vessel a subtle directional quality, as if naturally leaning towards the light source.

It fully embodies the characteristics of 1950s Nordic modernist ceramics: natural themes, matte or semi-gloss glazes, and clean yet three-dimensional forms. Because of this aesthetic, it remains popular in today's Nordic antique market.

Even without flowers, it stands as a quiet sculpture. Just a few slender branches or a single flower can soften a space.
