The Kennel series, born in 1972, is Lisa Larson's lighthearted interpretation of different dog breeds. The Afghan Hound is a later addition to the series, based on the breed's characteristic slender lines and elegant posture, imbued with her usual gentle humor.

In this piece, she cleanly captures the Afghan Hound's long fur and quietly standing posture. The silhouette is simplified to its essential elements: a long, slender neck, flowing fur, and a gently standing form. The lines and textures on the surface resemble marks left by fingers combing through fur, with a natural feel that only hand-painting can achieve. The overall proportions are soft, with the subtle smile often seen in Larson's animal works.

• Discontinued:  This version of the Afghan Hound was mostly produced in the late 1970s to around 1980. With Larson's departure from Gustavsberg in 1980, this base-marked version also ceased production around the same time.
