Väst is one of the "Children of the World" series created by Lisa Larson at Gustavsberg in the 1960s. This series includes: Väst, Öst, Syd, Nord (Children of the West, East, South, North).

A little boy ready for a day at the beach: short blonde hair, blue swim trunks, carrying a small bucket in his hand, with a somewhat serious expression. A very ordinary, very real childhood scene.

“Children of the World” was born in Sweden in the 1960s, a decade that emphasized equality, cultural exchange, and everyday aesthetics. Larson used children from different cultural backgrounds as her theme, depicting aspects of life in various places through their postures, clothing, and small objects.

This series features simple shapes, restrained lines, and no exaggerated ornamentation. It's like a captured moment, quiet, straightforward, and imbued with the familiarity of everyday life.
