Arabia Finland • Friedl Holzer‑Kjellberg • Risporslin • tea trio

The Risporslin series, designed by Friedl Holzer‑Kjellberg, is one of Arabia's most iconic works from the mid-20th century. Its translucent quality, achieved through the rice grain carving technique, makes the white porcelain appear light and delicate in the light.

Holzer‑Kjellberg developed this technique in the 1940s: rice grain-shaped cutouts were carved into the bisque and then covered with transparent glaze, creating a soft, translucent effect after firing. The oval patterns on the cups and plates, resembling circular rice ears, are the most recognizable design element of the Risporslin series.

• Design Year：1939-1940s

• Discontinued：Produced in 1940-1970s. In the 1970s, the Arabia factory gradually moved towards more modern and mass-produced designs. The rice grain carving technique, which required significant manual labor and time, could not meet the demands of later mass production. With designer Friedl Holzer‑Kjellberg's retirement in 1971, the Risporslin series was discontinued, becoming a classic now only available through auction markets and among collectors.
