A deep cobalt blue glass vessel. The thick-walled glass forms slow layers in the light, and the curves and sense of weight give the object a quiet three-dimensionality. The lid is composed of a round protrusion and simple geometric lines, appearing as if pressed into shape, leaving soft shadows between the transparent and deep blue.

This piece belongs to Bertil Vallien’s Blue Line series from his time at Boda Åfors – an early creation from the late 1960s. During this period, Vallien was exploring “color density” and the “sculptural quality of glass,” establishing his signature style, later prominent in Swedish glass art, through thick walls, cold-worked marks, and simplified geometric vocabulary.

Deep blue is the core language of the Blue Line: it exhibits a subtle translucency in the light, with hand-polished details along the edges, giving the vessel a composed brilliance in its space.
